It was a great, epic game for sure. Williams, Renfrow and Watson, plus Boulware. What a job they all did, especially in the 2nd half. 21 points against a Bama defense in the 4th quarter.
And two title games between these two and they've split, coming down to 76-75...Watson has 941 yards and EIGHT TDs against Bama in two title games, rushing and passing...wow!.
I think the injury to Bo Scaborough may have been the turning point. Even with Hurts' run that put the Tide back up with 2 minutes to go, not having Bo in the 2nd half took away some of the Bama game plan. He and OJ Howard played a tremendous game for Bama. The other backs had some runs maybe, but didn't seem to be the threat at least in the mind of the Bama coaches, and Sark didn't try to use them as much, even though one averaged 8 ypc and the other 4.8. For some reason, they didn't use the running game late
And Bama's quick score left too much time for Watson and his teammates. Kudos to Chad Morris who recruited Watson, and to Brent Venables, whose defenses have come through time after time for Clemson. Great win for the Tigers. 35 years after their last national title, '81. The same time frame as Texas had when Vince Young led Texas in the win over USC, from '70's title to the 2005 championship.
I guess now it's on to recruiting season. Watson turning pro....along with several others. And Hurts the new QB darling of CFB....will he have the kind of team around him next year that he had this year? If Saban is alive, yes.
